New game: Build a PC with Hexo
· version v11
A brand-new game for all ages: open a real-looking computer case, install the parts, plug in the cables and build PCs for a grandma, an office and a gamer.
There is a new game on HexoQuest: Build a PC. Kids unscrew the side panel of a real-looking computer case and build a working computer, part by part.
How it works
- Open the case: undo four screws and slide the side panel away.
- Install the parts: CPU, cooler, memory, SSD or hard drive, graphics card, power supply and fans, each in its own slot on the motherboard.
- Plug in the cables: the 24-pin and CPU power cables, the case power button, SATA cables and PCIe power for a big graphics card.
- Power on: the monitor shows what happened. Maybe it works, or maybe there is no signal, the computer beeps, overheats or can't find a boot drive.
Six levels, three customers
Kids build a simple computer for Grandma Rose, a lag-free office PC and a gaming PC that has to reach 120 frames per second. Every customer has a budget, so kids learn to choose parts wisely instead of just buying the most expensive ones. Two levels are all about fixing: find out why nothing happens, and what the beep codes mean.
What kids learn
What each part of a computer does, what compatibility means (sockets, DDR4 and DDR5), how to work out power draw, what FPS and a bottleneck are, and how to build to someone's needs within a budget.
