Hexo's Mission: kids type real code to guide a robot
· version v15
A new game where kids write real code, not blocks. They guide Hexo across meadows, rivers and deserts to collect batteries in 10 levels.
Hexo's battery is running low, and full batteries are scattered across the map. In Hexo's Mission, kids help him by typing real code, just like real programmers. No blocks this time.
Three commands to start
The first levels need only step 10, turn left and turn right. Later kids learn:
turn_to battery1: Hexo works out the angle by himselfstep distance_to battery1: a function that returns a numberrepeat 3with indented commands: the first loopfor b in batteries: a loop over a list, almost the same as in Pythonsay "Yay!": because finishing a mission deserves a cheer
Made for learning
Mistakes get friendly messages with the line number, such as "Did you mean step?". The line that is running lights up, a ruler shows the distance from Hexo to the mouse, and a dashed trail shows where he has been. Hexo cannot swim, so the river can only be crossed on the bridge. A sensor stops him just before rocks and trees, so he never crashes.
The 10 levels go from First steps to For every battery. Great from age 9. Play Hexo's Mission!
