HexoQuest is live: learn HTML and CSS by playing
· version v1
Meet Hexo, the robot who teaches kids aged 11–14 to build web pages with blocks. Ten levels of HTML and CSS, three free, with tools for teachers and parents.
Today we are launching HexoQuest, an online coding classroom where kids learn how the web works by building it themselves. Hexo the robot guides them through short, game-like levels. Kids snap blocks together like building bricks, see their page change instantly, and always see the real HTML code their blocks create.
The first course: Web, HTML and CSS
The HTML and CSS course has ten levels. Kids start with a single heading and finish with their own profile card that they can download and open in any browser, even offline. Along the way they learn:
- headings, paragraphs, images, links and lists in HTML
- why every image needs a description (alt text) and how screen readers use it
- colors, fonts, padding, borders and rounded corners in CSS
- the box model and the cascade, explained for kids
- why we never put our last name, address or phone number on a public page
Every level has clear goals, hints when kids get stuck, a bonus goal for the third star and a short explanation of what they just learned.
Free levels and a free trial
The first three levels of every course are free for everyone, without an account. Teachers and parents can try everything free for 30 days with up to 10 kids, no card required. After that, choose the Family, Classroom or School plan, in US dollars or euros.
