Two new coding games: Hexo's Adventure and Home Network
· version v9
A story adventure where kids guide Hexo with blocks and then real Python, and a home Wi-Fi puzzle game with cables, routers and a signal heat map.
Not every lesson has to look like a lesson. Two new games for all ages turn coding and networking into a story and a puzzle.
Hexo's Adventure
Hexo's time machine has crash-landed in the dark Middle Ages, and a shadow has stolen it. In 20 levels across two chapters, kids guide Hexo through The Dark Forest and The Village Below the Castle:
- the first levels use blocks: move, collect time crystals, chase away shadows with a lantern
- loops shorten long paths, and a sign hides the password for the village gate
- from level 8 on, kids write real Python:
right(3),forloops,if is_shadow("right"),whileloops and their own functions - some levels have several map versions, so the program has to decide for itself instead of following a memorized path
- the story ends with a cliffhanger: the Dark Lord has built a server room from parts of the time machine
Home Network
Hexo's family has moved, and the new house needs internet everywhere. On a real floor plan, kids run cables, place the router and watch a Wi-Fi heat map:
- learn why the internet goes into the WAN port and devices into LAN
- find the best spot for the router and see how brick and concrete walls weaken the signal
- use an extender and find out why it halves the speed
- give the game console a cable because lag matters
- add a switch when there are not enough ports
- light up a two-story house with an access point and a smart home on 2.4 GHz
- finish with a big house on a budget
As always, the first three levels are free. Both games work on computers and tablets, with nothing to install.
