Duels, a leaderboard, a flag hunt and more ways to play
· version v10
Challenge a friend to a live coding quiz, climb the leaderboard, hunt for hidden flags with developer tools and dress up Hexo with the stars you earn.
Learning sticks better when it is fun. This update adds a whole set of new ways to play, all free for everyone.
Duel
Challenge a classmate or a friend to a live quiz for two. You both get the same 7 questions about coding, the web, online safety and networks. A correct answer earns points, and the faster you are, the more you get. After the last question, you can review every answer and ask for a rematch. No account needed, just a nickname.
Leaderboard
The leaderboard shows who earned the most stars today, this month and of all time. Privacy comes first: it only shows nicknames and stars. Teachers decide whether their class appears on it, and independent players can hide themselves in their account settings.
Flag hunt
Five flags are hidden on HexoQuest pages. To find them, kids use the same tools real developers use every day: the page source, the developer console, Inspect element, HTTP headers and one famous secret code. Enter the flags on the flag hunt page to unlock a secret badge.
What does your browser know about you?
This page shows, live, everything a website learns the moment you open it: your device, screen, time zone, graphics card and even where your mouse is. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere. It ends with simple tips on how to protect your privacy.
Hexo's wardrobe
Stars from levels now unlock hats, glasses, pets and colors in Hexo's wardrobe, and Hexo wears them in every level.
A new home page
You can now write your first program right on the home page, in 30 seconds and without signing up. There is also a tour of the levels, a secret message to crack and a “Hack this page” panel that lets you remix the home page with code.
Try HexoQuest
The first 3 levels are free. Teachers and parents get a 30-day free trial.
